Welcome to Marina Del Rey

It's Father's Day! Marina del Rey Offers Boating & Fishing Activities

Press Release: June 2006

MARINA DEL REY, CALIF.

IT'S FATHER'S DAY!

MARINA DEL REY OFFERS BOATING AND FISHING ACTIVITIES AND FATHER'S DAY BRUNCH FOR DADS AND FAMILIES TO ENJOY

This Father's Day, why not do something different to show your father you care? Visit Marina del Rey - Southern California's premiere boating destination - and treat dad to a boating or fishing excursion on the water. Or, if you're a father with little ones, gather the kids and hit the water for a day of family fun!

If dad's a fisherman at heart, Marina del Rey Sport Fishing offers both half-day and three-quarter day fishing trips from Marina harbor, which cost between $30 and $45. The trips require one-day advance reservations, but no previous fishing experience. Marina del Rey Sport fishing will provide fishing licenses, polls and bait - all you have to do is show up!

Just Fun Stuff Tours also offers an opportunity to explore the Marina in style - their narrated harbor tours, which take place aboard a vintage 1939 touring yacht, leave every hour on the hour from noon to 5 p.m. (Wednesday - Sunday), and circulates the Marina del Rey harbor. The 40-minute tours cost $10 for adults, $8 for seniors over the age of 65, $6 for children two to 12, and $2 for children under two years old.

Feeling ambitious? Make dad's day extra special by taking him on a mini-vacation! Until now, Angelenos have had to drive all the way to San Pedro for ferry service between the mainland and Catalina Island, making a day trip inconvenient at best. As of June 9, however, the Catalina-Marina del Rey Flyer will begin service between Marina del Rey and Avalon and Two Harbors on Catalina Island, making travel easy and convenient. Round-trip fares are $67 for adults, $52 for children 2-11, and $62 for seniors. (On Father's day, the company will be offer 25 percent off the regular price.)

Or, if you prefer to stick to the mainland, be sure to visit Marina Boat Rentals for all of your boat rental needs. The company rents powerboats, sailboats, electric boats, paddle boats, jet skis and kayaks by the hour, half-day or full day.

Why not combine dad's love of boating with his love of good food? Hornblower Cruises & Events is offering a Father's Day Brunch Cruise featuring delicacies such as huevos rancheros, seafood salad and carved ham and turkey. Boarding commences at 11:30 a.m., and cruising takes place from noon to 2 p.m. The brunch is priced at $54.95 per person, and includes free-flowing champagne.

If dad prefers to sleep in, then Hornblower Cruises also offers a Father's Day Dinner Cruise from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. The dinner will be a 3-course meal including selections such as filet mignon, fresh salmon and duchess potatoes. A cash bar will be available on the cruise, which is priced at $69.00 per person.

Brunching while cruising not for you? If dad chooses to spend a day on the water without meals, then he's bound to be hungry upon his return to shore. Why not satiate hearty appetites at one of the many Marina del Rey restaurants offering Father's Day brunch specials?

If looking to wine and dine in style, Cafˇ Del Rey will be offering a three-course prix-fixe brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Boasting a menu that primarily features Mediterranean cuisine, with some French and Pacific Rim influences, Cafˇ Del Rey's numerous skylights and windows looking down the main channel make it an inviting location to spend Father's Day brunch. Cost is $39 a person and includes a complimentary glass of champagne.

Is dad a meat and potatoes type of guy? Tony P's has coined the motto "Let 'Em Eat Steak!" for its Father's Day festivities, which will feature the restaurant's regular menu but encourage patrons to feast on choice cuts.

At Shanghai Reds, brunch-goers will be treated to a champagne brunch anytime between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. Cost is $35.95 for adults or $15.95 for children 10 and under. At the Warehouse, restaurant patrons will enjoy delicacies such as oysters, roast beef, and cuisine from around the world, at the price of $34.95 for adults, $15.95 for children 12 and under. Complimentary champagne is included.

Finally, if looking to treat dad to 4-diamond, luxurious dining on his special day, then Jer-Ne Restaurant + Bar, located in the Ritz-Carlton, Marina del Rey and recently commended for its "Best Fusion Cuisine" by Los Angeles Magazine, is a choice pick. Open for Father's Day brunch from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., J_r-n_ offers both indoor seating and outdoor, climate-controlled patio seating with breathtaking views of the Marina, as well as live entertainment. The brunch is priced at $85.00 for adults and $40.00 for children.

From guided boat tours, to day trips, to solo rentals, Marina del Rey promises to give dad a Father's Day adventure that he won't forget. Bring the entire family, or make it a father-son bonding day - but, above all else, show your father that you care this Father's Day!

For those who want to make a weekend of it, treat dad to a stay at one of Marina del Rey's six hotels. The hotels range from budget to high-end luxury properties, which provide a myriad of accommodation options.
