Marina del Rey is conveniently located less than four miles from LAX.
From LAX
Arriving at LAX, the sixth busiest airport in the world, it's reassuring to realize that you're only moments away from a harbor of serenity - Marina del Rey. Being close enough to smell the salty air of the nearby Pacific Ocean means your journey is almost over.
Follow the ground transportation signs down the escalators and out of the terminal and into the sunshine. Shuttles, taxis, rental car buses and public transportation are located on the lower arrival level. From LAX to Marina del Rey, taxi fare is approximately $20-23 and a shuttle runs approximately $16 per person.
Driving and Rental Cars
Driving from LAX to Marina del Rey, less than four miles away, is a breeze. Exiting the airport, look for North Sepulveda Boulevard and Route 1 North. Stay on Sepulveda Boulevard briefly, veering towards the left, and merge almost immediately onto Lincoln Boulevard (Route 1 North) towards Marina del Rey, Venice Beach and Santa Monica.
Follow Lincoln Boulevard north for roughly three to four miles, through the community of Westchester, then down the hill through the Ballona Wetlands and Playa Vista until you start seeing street names from the South Seas. Turn left on one of these (Fiji, Mindanao, and Bali Way) and you're in the Marina.
Over 40 rental car agencies operate in the LAX area. If you have a rental car to pick up, you'll find most of the larger agencies are very near Sepulveda Boulevard in the airport area, so you can use the same directions shown above. If you prefer to rent a car once you have arrived in Marina del Rey, nearly a dozen locations are available in the immediate Marina del Rey/Venice Beach area. Your hotel may also offer assistance in referring you to local car rental agencies.
Taxis
Taxis are abundantly available at the airport, and are located on the lower level of each terminal. A taxi dispatcher will hail an official taxi for you. Taxicabs bearing the seal are insured, have trained drivers and are regularly inspected by the City of Los Angeles. Any cab without the seal is a bandit cab with no legal authorization to operate in the City.
All taxis charge the same fare, which is $2.00 to begin (1/10 mile or 32 seconds or fraction thereof), plus $.20 each additional 1/10 mile or part. There is a $2.50 surcharge for all trips originating at LAX, plus a minimum fare of $15 for all trips originating at LAX. All passengers ride for the price of one.
Airport Shuttles (Shared Ride Vans)
Two shared ride van companies, Prime Time Shuttle and SuperShuttle, operate out of LAX and are authorized to serve all Southern California counties. Passengers are encouraged to contact the companies first for more information. These vans pick up passengers on the Lower/Arrival Level islands in front of each terminal under the orange sign Shared Ride Vans.
Public Bus
Public buses connect directly to the airport at the nearby LAX Transit Center. Passengers wishing to go to the LAX Transit Center should wait under the LAX Shuttle & Airline Connections blue sign on the Lower/Arrival Level islands in front of each terminal, and board the free "C" shuttle.
Once at the LAX Transit Center, visitors can board city buses serving the Los Angeles and Marina del Rey area. Santa Monica Municipal Bus Lines (Big Blue Bus) Line #3 Northbound is the most convenient line to Marina del Rey, Get off the bus at Fiji Way (for access to Fisherman's Village) or Mindanao Way, and connect to the Metro Line #108, which travels down Admiralty Way in the heart of the marina.
